"Among the dead are thousands of mothers, leaving behind crushed children, families, and communities. The death toll underscores the conflict's horrific, human cost and all the lives and future plans that have been extinguished far too early", writes UN Women in a press release.
The UN organization also expresses its support for Secretary-General António Guterres' demand for an immediate ceasefire and warns of the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
"If there is not a significant increase in access to emergency aid, support, and financing, an untold number of lives are at stake", it writes further.
According to Hamas-controlled health authorities, over 52,000 people have been killed since Israel launched its bombings against the densely populated area following Hamas' bloody attack on October 7, 2023.
