The next major aid package for Ukraine is the main topic of the next EU leaders' summit. Now it could be overshadowed by major agricultural protests.

The European agricultural lobby Copa-Cogeca hopes to gather 10,000 farmers in Brussels on December 18 to “denounce the EU’s growing ‘smoke and mirrors’ attitude towards agriculture.”

The protest is primarily about the EU's planned trade agreement with the Mercosur countries in South America, which the European Commission hopes to get the go-ahead from member states and the European Parliament in mid-December. In addition, farmers are unhappy about reduced EU subsidies in the Commission's proposal for the next long-term budget.

"We demand brave, clear and sustainable solutions for our agriculture," Copa-Cogeca writes in a press release on its website .
