‘Ghost bridge’ linking China and North Korea opens to traffic after decade-long delay

The purpose of the three-kilometre-long bridge is to “revive business relations” between the countries, the report says.

The bridge’s inauguration, originally scheduled for 2014, was postponed. North Korea halted construction of the connecting roads, then came the pandemic and a cooling of relations between Pyongyang and Beijing, the BBC writes.

Over the years, the construction became known as the “ghost bridge”. But now that it can finally open, “a new chapter begins,” Chinese Premier Li Qiang said in a statement on Thursday.

However, it is currently reported that there is no passenger traffic, only freight.
