Gert Lengstrand, Streaplers Singer and Eurovision Songwriter, Dies at 84

Artist and songwriter Gert Lengstrand, former lead singer of Streaplers, has died. Among the many songs he wrote was Charlotte Perrelli’s Eurovision-winning song “Tusen och en natt.”

His later band, Mule Skinner Band, expressed its grief on Facebook, reports Expressen, which has also been in contact with his son, Jonas Lengstrand.

Gert Lengstrand was the singer in Streaplers from 1959 to 1966, when he left the band to focus more on songwriting.

My dreams had come true. We had been able to record albums, tour all over the country and have some big hits. Now I would rather work behind the scenes, he told Göteborgs-Posten in an interview.

According to GP, he wrote more than 500 song lyrics during his career, 40 of them for Arvingarna.

Gert Lengstrand was also inducted into the Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame after writing hit songs such as Janne "Lucas" Persson's "Växeln hallå" from 1980, Arvingarna's "Eloise" from 1993 and Charlotte Perrelli's "Tusen och en natt" from 1999.

In 2014, he formed the Mule Skinner Band with some former Streaplers members.

Gert Lengstrand died after a period of illness. He was 84.
