The German message about new economic support came at a joint press conference with the Ukrainian president in Ukraine's capital on Thursday.
We are planning – it has not yet been determined, but it is being prepared – an additional 1.9 billion euros in support that will be given in the coming weeks or months. First, a decision must be made in the Bundestag, said Pistorius.
Controversial robots
He said that the support – equivalent to 21 billion kronor – will not be used for long-range robots of the Taurus type.
The long-range robot has a range of 50 miles and could thus reach targets far into Russian territory. Kyiv has explicitly appealed to get access to just such robots.
If I get the question of whether we are considering this, then my answer is no, said Pistorius.
The German Minister of Defense's visit to Kyiv comes after sharp statements by Germany's Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who on Tuesday characterized the intensified Russian attacks as "terror against the civilian population". He said that Russia's latest actions are "anything but a proportionate response to the very precise Ukrainian attacks on military air bases and infrastructure last week”.
Meeting with G7
From the Ukrainian side, Zelenskyj hoped for a meeting with Donald Trump when the powerful G7 countries meet in Canada over the weekend.
Zelenskyj said that a package of sanctions aimed at Russian interests – which may be discussed during the meeting in Kananaskis – is directly dependent on American approval.
The final decision is made in the White House, and the decision is made by the President of the USA, noted Zelenskyj.
