In 32 years, Germany has been waiting to lift the European Championship trophy. After a bronze medal and disappointment during the home European Championship 2022, the country now got its revenge.
Turkey was defeated in a thrilling final that swung back and forth. At halftime, Germany was behind 40–46 after Turkey's stars Alperen Sengun and Cedi Osman dominated the event.
Then came the turnaround.
The three-pointers started to sit from the German players and Franz Wagner, NBA star in Orlando Magic, carried the team's offense.
The fourth period was characterized by mistakes and nervousness. In the end, however, Germany could pull away and take a long-awaited European Championship triumph. Dennis Schröder, NBA star in Detroit Pistons, took charge of Germany's game when it mattered most and scored the last seven points in the match himself.
Greece earlier in the evening took the bronze after a dramatic match against Finland.
Sweden was eliminated in the round of 16 of the tournament, by Turkey.
