Germany started the expected match best, and seemed to have taken a 1–0 lead after 18 minutes when Klara Bühl finished from the penalty area line.

After a long VAR review, it became clear that the ball had touched a German player in an offside position.

Long injury breaks and VAR reviews would prove to be common in the match.

The disallowed goal gave the Danes energy, and a few minutes later it was the red and white who took the lead in the match. Amalie Vangsgaard created enough space in the penalty area to make a fine finish that Ann-Katrin Berger could not reach.

Long review

Ten minutes later came the next long VAR review. Frederikke Thøgersen got Bühl's pass on her arm, and main referee Catarina Campos blew for a penalty to Germany. Alen Borošak and Tiago Martins in the VAR room could see that the situation occurred just outside the penalty area, and the decision was changed to a free kick.

Despite seven minutes of added time, Germany did not manage to equalize in the first half.

However, they could do so early in the second.

After yet another long VAR review, the referee team concluded that Germany should be awarded a penalty after a foul in the penalty area. Sjoeke Nüsken took care of it and equalized to 1–1.

The referee got cramp

It did not stop there – ten minutes later, the Germans took advantage of Danish sloppiness. The white-clad team counter-attacked and Lea Schüller scored the lead goal.

During the match, several players received medical treatment. But with over 20 minutes left, the referee Ocampos also needed help with cramping calves. She could, however, complete the match.

Denmark did their best to equalize, but it became the second loss in the European Championship and they remain on zero points. Germany has a full score of six points.
