Germany has had a nightmare start to the World Championship qualification. After the heavy opening loss away to Slovakia on Thursday, Germany now sought revenge when Northern Ireland visited the stadium in Cologne.
It started badly. After an equalizer by Northern Ireland just before the break, the German audience expressed their discontent thoroughly. The audience both booed and whistled out their team after a shaky half.
However, it had an effect on the German team.
Germany came out as a different team in the second half – and in the end, the reward came. After 69 minutes, Nadiem Amiri stayed up front in the penalty area and made it 2–1.
Just three minutes later, it struck again. The young star Florian Wirtz, Liverpool's billion purchase, showed class when he scored a free kick to 3–1, which became the final result.
Germany is third in its World Championship qualification group, which is topped by Slovakia.
