Germany may withdraw as host of next year’s Ice Hockey World Championship after Russia’s return is approved

“Germany may withdraw from hosting next year’s Ice Hockey World Championship. We must, of course, consider that possibility,” Frank H. Lutz, CEO of the German Ice Hockey Association, told MagentaTV.

Eurosport has interviewed Lutz, who opens up about Germany giving up hosting the World Cup after last week's announcement that Russia will be allowed to play in the tournament.

Lutz says he will travel to Berlin for talks with the German government.

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has banned Russia from participating in international tournaments following the country's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. That decision has now been overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The Men's World Cup will be played in Gelsenkirchen, Mannheim and Düsseldorf in May next year.
