Germany is evacuating around 20 German citizens from the Gaza Strip, the country's government announces.
There is currently an operation underway in close cooperation with the Israeli authorities to allow people to leave, says Christian Wagner, spokesperson for Germany's Foreign Ministry, at a press conference.
A small, single-digit number of German citizens will remain in the war-torn area, which the German government is aware of and who also want to leave, he adds.
Sweden is also evacuating around 20 Swedish citizens from Gaza, according to information from Dagens ETC. The newspaper has spoken to two people who have been trapped in the bombed-out area and are now on their way to Jordan.
