"We have agreed to cooperate with the United States and allies in the region on this issue," the countries' leaders wrote in the statement late Sunday.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot promised support to countries in the region that have been "dragged into a war they did not choose."
"France expresses its full support and complete solidarity and stands ready... to contribute to their defense," Barrot said at a press conference.
The European Commission is holding an extraordinary security meeting in Brussels on Monday. President Ursula von der Leyen condemns Iran's retaliatory attacks but emphasizes that a diplomatic solution is the only "long-term sustainable" one.
