The Federal Diet's budget committee gave the green light to the support package on Friday, which had been on ice for several months due to disagreement in the outgoing Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz's coalition government.

The announcement comes on the same day as the German Federal Council has approved constitutional amendments that open up for loans of hundreds of billions of euros for defense and infrastructure.

The support package that has now been approved will be added to the support package to Ukraine of 4 billion euros that is already included in Germany's budget for 2025, as well as the 8.3 billion euros that Germany will provide to Ukraine during 2026-2029.

Germany has been the second-largest provider of military support to Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of the country in February 2022. So far, Germany has donated around 28 billion euros.
