German Trade Surplus Rises Unexpectedly in May

Germany's surplus in trade with other countries increased in May, according to a report from the statistics office Destatis. The increase is unexpected.

The adjusted trade surplus rose to 18.4 billion euro in May. It can be compared to an average forecast of 15.7 billion euro among analysts, according to Bloomberg.

German exports in May fell 1.4 percent from the previous month after the decline of 1.6 percent in April.

For imports, it was a decline of 3.8 percent in May after the increase of 2.2 percent in April.
