In the 1970s, he appeared in the Oscar-winning film adaptation of Günter Grass's novel "The Tin Drum." He also played Inspector Beizmenne in "The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum," based on Heinrich Böll's novel of the same name.
Adorf was born in Zurich, where he also began his acting career at a student theater. According to Der Spiegel, he became one of Germany's most popular actors.
