German retail sales up 0.1 percent in December, 3.2 percent year on year

Retail sales in Germany - Europe's largest economy and Sweden's most important export market - increased by 0.1 percent in December of last year compared with the previous month, the German statistics agency Destatis reports.

The increase was in line with market expectations, according to Bloomberg.

The annual increase was 3.2 percent, above the expected 2.0 percent. It also stands in sharp contrast to November, when retail sales in Germany fell 1.6 percent from a year earlier, according to revised figures.
