German ‘King’ Peter Fitzek Demands to Be Called Peter the First in Court

Former chef Peter Fitzek demanded to be called “Peter the First” as the trial of the “Kingdom of Germany” movement began in Düsseldorf.

The 61-year-old wants to be called king and is now the main defendant in a trial over the movement’s alleged plans to overthrow Germany’s state system in favour of “pseudo-state structures,” according to prosecutors.

At the start of the trial, Fitzek refused to give his full name, identifying himself instead as “Peter the First.”

The “Kingdom of Germany” is an offshoot of the so-called Reichsbürger movement, which wanted to revive the German Empire. Fitzek and several co-defendants were arrested in spring 2025, when his extremist group was also declared illegal.
