German Inflation Surpasses Expectations at 2.4 Percent in September

Inflation in Germany rose to 2.4 percent in September, according to preliminary official statistics.

In August, the annual rate of price increase, inflation, was 2.2 percent. The price increases were also higher than expected, expectations were at 2.3 percent in September, according to a compilation of forecasts.

The inflation rate in France rose at the same time from 0.9 percent in August to an annual rate of price increase of 1.2 percent in September. Also in Italy, inflation rose slightly.
