German inflation falls to 2.7 percent in May 2026

Germany's inflation fell to 2.7 percent in May, according to EU-harmonized figures from the country's statistics agency, Destatis.

This compares with 2.9 percent in April.

"The inflation rate in May 2026 was slightly lower than in previous months. Energy prices were still at high levels as a result of the war in Iran, but the reduction in fuel taxes that has been in effect since the beginning of May likely contributed to dampening price increases," said Destatis head Ruth Brand in a statement.
