The German champion club in handball, with several Swedes in the team, is applying for bankruptcy. Ludwigsburg won the league as recently as the end of May.

The background to the economic crisis is said to be due to unsuccessful sponsorship negotiations. Ludwigsburg is allowed, despite the difficulties, to participate in play in the top league next season.

Also, the French Nantes has recently, in 2024 during the ongoing Olympic Games, gone bankrupt.
