German growth could be halved this year if Middle East conflict drags on

German officials estimate that GDP growth could hit 0.5 percent this year because of the war in Iran, compared with the current forecast of 1.0 percent. The officials asked to remain anonymous because the figures are not public.

Germany's finance minister has declined to comment on Bloomberg's report. The finance ministry has not responded to the news agency's inquiries.

The same sources said that Italy will also soon lower its growth forecast.
