This summer it emerged that Carl tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol in connection with the Military World Championships in March last year. She has claimed she ingested the substance via a cough medicine she took on the advice of the military national team.

The suspension applies retroactively, and she can compete again on November 25 this year, the DPA news agency wrote.

Carl, who finished second overall in the World Cup in the 2024–2025 season, missed the entire past season, including the Olympics in Val di Fiemme.

She won Olympic gold in the sprint relay with Katharina Henning in Beijing 2022 and was part of the German team that won silver in the traditional relay during the same Winter Games.

The verdict can be appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
