Germany's Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and her Austrian counterpart Gerhard Karner have at the last minute cancelled a trip to Syria due to a possible assassination threat, according to German authorities.
The German delegation was to fly with a military plane from Amman to Damascus on Thursday morning to meet with representatives of the new government, but cancelled the plans after concrete intelligence information about a terrorist threat, reports the Interior Ministry in Berlin to the news agency DPA.
The trip had not been communicated in advance. Last week, Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was in Damascus to reopen the German embassy, which had been closed for 13 years.
