"This year has been stressful to say the least," writes the author behind the novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire."

Martin says the year has been overwhelming, with both fantastic successes and “nightmares,” such as the deaths of friends. He also writes that his assistants have been updating the blog recently.

George RR Martin shares how he has battled grief and depression. "I turned seventy-seven last September, and I'm telling you, getting old is no fun," he writes.

Despite everything, he is also proud of the team behind the television series "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," which has been nominated for nine Emmys.
