The 2024 report shows an alarming increase in attacks on journalists in war zones. It's about silencing independent reporting to more easily spread propaganda and disinformation," he continues.

Gaza is the most dangerous place in the world for journalists. Since October 2023, when the war between Israel and Hamas broke out, more than 145 journalists and media workers have been killed by the Israeli army, at least 35 of them on duty.

Around the world, 550 journalists are imprisoned, an increase of 7 percent compared to the previous year, according to RSF. The increase is mainly due to new prison sentences in Russia and Israel.
