Nearly 40 people have been killed in connection with Israel- and US-controlled food distributions on Monday, reports the civil defense in Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.
The civil defense accuses Israeli forces of having shot at the aid-seekers. According to spokesperson Mahmud Bassal, the crowd was waiting for access to an aid center in Rafah in southern Gaza Strip when they were shot at on Monday. Witnesses state that Israeli soldiers opened fire in an attempt to "control" the crowd, writes AP.
Israel's military has not commented on the matter.
The aid activity is run by the heavily criticized Israel- and US-supported group GHF. In recent weeks, a large number of Palestinians have been shot dead and even more have been injured at or near the organization's distribution sites in Gaza Strip. Monday's death toll is the highest so far.
