At least 21 people have been killed in an Israeli air strike against a refugee camp in al-Mawasi in southern Gaza, according to Atif Al-Hout, head of Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis. Another 28 people are reported to have been injured in the attack.
The Israeli military claims that the air force attacked Hamas members in the area, and that the air strike led to the detonation of other explosives.
The attack on the refugee camp, where hundreds of thousands of Gazans have sought shelter during the war, was carried out after several other Israeli attacks on targets in Gaza. In an attack in central Gaza earlier on Wednesday, ten people are reported to have been killed, including four children.
Over 44,500 people have now been killed in Gaza in the war triggered by the large-scale attack by terrorist-designated Hamas against Israel on October 7 last year. This according to health authorities in the Hamas-controlled area, whose statistics do not distinguish between civilians and combatants.
