During the afternoon, the Christmas tree in Gävle suddenly collapsed due to the strong winds after Storm Johannes swept over the city. Curious people gathered at the landmark, which is now on its side within the fenced area.
According to Åsa Wiklund Lång (S), another municipal councilor has inspected the straw hut, but no decision has yet been made about what will happen.
On the Gävle Goat's Instagram, which is run by Visit Gävle, the goat seems to be thanking himself for this year.
"Unfortunately, I have fallen and met my fate - I regret my sudden end," it says.
The straw goat has been standing on the Town Hall Square since 2022, but has been a tradition in Gävle since 1966.
The most famous is the trestle when it is set on fire or otherwise attacked annually. In 2023, the straw was eaten by birds; the last time it burned down was in 2021. In 1976, a garbage truck ran over the trestle. Of the 60 years the trestle has been erected, it has only been left standing more or less unharmed 20 times.
The municipality's Facebook page writes:
"The Gävlebocken has fallen and met its fate. No one was injured. We regret the sudden end and thank the Gävlebocken, residents and visitors for all the love and warmth this year!"
