Paula Badosa may be far below Coco Gauff in the world rankings, but the Spaniard is hardly a dream opponent for the American superstar. Of the last eight meetings between the players, Gauff had won only three.
Last night came the fourth.
After two relatively comfortable hours, Gauff managed to close out the match in straight sets.
"Of course, I would have preferred not to face someone I've lost to so many times already in the second round. But I think today's match gave me a big confidence boost," Coco Gauff said afterwards.
Gauff next meets another Spaniard, Cristina Bucsa.
