At least 16 people have been killed and dozens injured in a gas explosion in Karachi, Pakistan, rescue services in the port city told the EFE news agency.

The accident occurred at around 5 a.m. local time and led to the partial collapse of a residential building in the Gul Rana district. Children are among the dead.

The explosion is believed to have been caused by a gas leak, according to police.
