Kasparov writes on social media that the information is not surprising, but shocking. His close colleague Ivan Tiutrin has also reportedly been alerted.
“Lithuanian and American security services informed us that our lives were in danger and that we should take preventive measures,” he writes.
The 63-year-old left Russia more than a decade ago. In recent years, he has been labelled a terrorist in his home country.
Russia planned to assassinate several exiled activists this summer, El Mundo reports. Five Russians were recently put on trial in the United States for murder plots. According to the newspaper, they were to assassinate Kasparov and opposition figure Ilya Ponomarev in the United States and another person in Vilnius.
