The report has the Crime Prevention Council investigated patterns based on the geographical concentration of crimes and differences between areas.
It was found that 57 percent of shootings between 2018 and 2023 were concentrated in seven percent of the areas. When it comes to explosions 2020–2023, 40 percent occurred in two percent of the areas.
The areas where the majority of shootings occur are largely the same as where there are explosions.
Brå also notes that the number of shootings and explosions per 100,000 inhabitants is significantly higher where there is social vulnerability, high emigration or low voter turnout. The crimes are also more common where the population density is high.
Explosions are twelve times more common in areas with the highest population density compared to places with the lowest density. When it comes to shootings, the level is nine times higher in areas with the greatest social vulnerability compared to where it is lowest.
The crimes are also more common in areas where trust in the police's way of treating suspects is lowest.
By areas, geographically bounded parts of municipalities and cities are meant, based on SCB's division of Sweden into 3,363 smaller areas.
