Despite his obvious gambling addiction, he was bombarded with advertisements from two gambling companies. Now the companies have been ordered to pay back nearly five million to the man.

The two gambling companies knew from collected gaming data that the man had serious gambling problems, the Svea Court of Appeal finds. Nevertheless, the player received bonus offers, became a VIP customer and was invited to competitions that required further gambling. Over three and a half years, between 2016 and 2019, the man lost nearly 4.7 million kronor on online games. The gambling companies, both part of the Betsson group, must now repay him that money.

"We have assessed that the conditions for declaring the agreements invalid were met in this case," Court of Appeal Councilor Eva Edwardsson, who was the rapporteur in the case, said.
