Grégory Caulier, secretary-general of the César Academy, calls the controversy a “non-issue.” He also emphasizes Carrey’s significant involvement in the event:
"He has been deeply moved by the Academy's invitation from the very beginning. The visit has been planned since last summer. He practiced his speech in French for months," he writes in a statement to Variety.
