Even before the World Cup started, Gabriel Gudmundsson announced that he would become a father during the tournament and that he would likely miss the birth of his child.
On Tuesday, with hours to go until Sweden's round-of-16 match against France, Gudmundsson's partner Matilda Olsson announced that they had become parents.
"Welcome, beloved Charlie. We continue to cheer for dad and miss him a lot," Olsson writes.
In the picture that Matilda Olsson posted on Instagram, Charlie is seen wearing the Swedish national team jersey with number five on the back - which is also Gabriel Gudmundsson's number.
The match against France starts at 11:00 p.m. The winner will face Paraguay in the round of 16.
