The statement, which was also signed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio - who attended the meeting - states that "deliberate attacks against civilians cannot be justified in any way."
The foreign ministers also stressed that it is of utmost importance to "permanently restore safe and free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz."
Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine was otherwise on the agenda when the G7 foreign ministers gathered for a meeting in Cernay-la-Ville, near Versailles outside Paris. But the meeting, which Marco Rubio attended, was also about the Iran war and marked his first foreign visit since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran almost exactly a month ago.
