Bromma airport is disputed. Now, the government is giving an investigator the task of reviewing its future – and the state's role as owner of airports.

"Air travel and airports are important. At the same time, domestic air traffic has struggled with difficult challenges for several years, and a number of questions have been raised for Bromma airport, which has lost much of its traffic," says Infrastructure and Housing Minister Andreas Carlson in a press release.

The task includes investigating the current national basic supply of airports owned and developed by Swedavia, and particularly the function of Bromma airport. The investigation will also review the state's role as owner and manager of airports.

"Furthermore, the total defense's need for airports has changed due to the deteriorated security situation and NATO membership. Against the background of all this, we see a great need for this investigation," says Andreas Carlson.

The task is to be reported by September 30, 2026.
