The funnel-shaped metal object was discovered in the water south of the island of Gustavssvärd outside Helsinki on Saturday evening. Finnish authorities, including the Finnish Defence Forces, were called in to investigate the object.
At 02:30 Swedish time, the police confirmed that the object was not explosive and, according to an initial assessment by the authorities, it was a piece of wreckage, reports Yle.
The Finnish ferry Viking XPRS, which was due to depart for Tallinn at 8 p.m., was delayed by four hours because of the discovery.
