In the bitter cold, guests arrived at the funeral service for Princess Désirée at the Royal Chapel. Outside Stockholm Palace, flags flew at half-mast.

The ceremony was held in a circle of family members and specially invited guests, about a hundred people in total. Princess Désirée's immediate family arrived last, after the rest of the royal family.

Afterwards, a private reception was held at the princess's childhood home, Princess Sibylla's apartment at the castle.

Earlier on Thursday, Riddarholm Church sounded a traditional Seraphim ringing.

Princess Désirée, who died on January 21 at the age of 87, was third among the "Hagasessorna".

She was married to Baron Niclas Silfverschiöld, the landowner of Koberg Castle in Västergötland. At Koberg, Princess Désirée lived a quiet family life and was later buried there.
