Seventh-seeded Taylor Fritz from the USA was defeated by 38-year-old Frenchman Gael Monfils in the Australian Open on Saturday morning.
Monfils is thus the second-oldest man, after Roger Federer, to advance to the quarterfinals in the tournament at Melbourne Park.
After the match, the veteran was very pleased when he gave an interview.
I did my job. It was an incredible match. Taylor is strong and serves well. I felt I could move perfectly today, he said, reports the Australian site Nine.
The 27-year-old world number four Fritz, who had impressed greatly in the beginning of the tournament, won the first set with 6–3 before Monfils turned the tables and won the remaining sets with 7–5, 7–6, 6–4.
