"Frida Karlsson continues to have cold symptoms and, together with the medical team, has decided to withdraw from Sunday's 5,000m," the Swedish national cross-country team's press officer Astri Lindbäck writes in a statement.
On her Instagram, Karlsson announced she has a fever.
The 26-year-old was a big medal favorite for Sunday's 5,000m. Karlsson has won two gold medals, in the skiathlon and the 10-kilometer freestyle, as well as a silver in the relay during the Olympics in Italy.
Sweden will field Ebba Andersson, Jonna Sundling and Emma Ribom in the 5,000m, where Andersson is the biggest medal contender.
