Bellini, Puccini – and a newly written opera about Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera – all live broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. This can be experienced by Swedish opera lovers across the country at the People's Houses and parks during the 2025-2026 season.
"The 19th season of high-class opera from the Met feels exciting to make accessible throughout Sweden – from Ystad to Haparanda. For us, it's an important democratization effort, to offer performing arts to everyone in Sweden, regardless of where they live," says Nina Andersson, CEO of the People's Houses and parks in a press release.
The season starts with Bellini's "La sonnambula" – "The Sleepwalker" – on October 18 and continues with Puccini's "La bohème" on November 8. The program, which includes eight performances, also features the American composer Gabriela Lena Frank's opera "Frida and Diego's Last Dream" about the Mexican artist couple, which will be live broadcast on May 30, 2026.
