The French-Danish actor, director, and writer Niels Arestrup has passed away at the age of 75.
According to Deadline, it is Arestrup's wife, actress and screenwriter Isabelle Le Nouvel, who announces that her husband died after a period of illness at his home outside Paris on Sunday.
Arestrup, who had a French mother and a Danish father, is primarily known for his César-winning roles in director Jacques Audiard's "The Beat That My Heart Skipped" and "A Prophet". He was also awarded a César (France's equivalent to the Oscar) for his role in Bertrand Tavernier's political satire "The French Minister".
Other notable roles include "The Butterfly in the Glass Case" and the drama "Return to Montauk" from 2017, where he played alongside Stellan Skarsgård, among others.
Niels Arestrup also had a long career behind him on the theater stage.
