On Monday, a smaller fire broke out in another part of the forest, and together the two fires have devoured nearly 2,000 hectares of land, French media report.

600 firefighters are working to extinguish the fires. Firefighting aircraft have been deployed to try to bring the fires under control.

The important A6 motorway between Paris and Lyon was partially closed to traffic on Monday. French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot told CNews/Europe 1 on Tuesday that the motorway will remain closed until the fire is under control.

On Monday, two people were arrested on suspicion of starting the fire.
