The 18-year-old, a student in Singapore, is said to have filmed himself licking a straw and then putting it back in a vending machine, a clip that quickly went viral on social media, according to The Straits Times.
He is now facing charges of disturbing public order and another charge that roughly translates to "mischief." The charges could lead to a combined prison term of two years and three months, as well as a fine.
According to the indictment, the teenager was aware that his actions could cause public irritation and result in a loss for the company, which had to replace all 500 straws in the vending machine.
The next court hearing will be on May 22.
