According to the prosecution authority in Paris, the search is linked to financing for the presidential election and the election to the National Assembly in 2022, as well as the EU election in 2024. The authority writes in a statement that the legal process will investigate whether the party's campaigns were financed illegally, reports Franceinfo.

A source tells Franceinfo that the search began at 7 am on Wednesday at the party's headquarters in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. A total of about ten police officers are said to have been involved, according to the source.

The leader of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella, writes on X that all emails, documents, and accounting documents have been seized, without the party being informed of the reason.

"Never before has an opposition party been subjected to a similar campaign of harassment", writes Bardella.
