The police said that the heat in the capital would create a strain on emergency services and that this was needed primarily to protect those who were hardest hit.

Therefore, the police asked the organizer to cancel the competition on Sunday, with stars such as Armand Duplantis, Noah Lyles and Femke Bol on the start lists.

The police also mentioned that they could order the organizer to stop the athletics competition.

A few hours later, the news came that the DL competition would still take place, but in an adapted format.

The heat wave has been ongoing since June 21, and on Thursday French weather stations recorded an average temperature of 30 degrees. Three-quarters of France is under a red weather warning due to the heat.
