French Police Investigate Suspected Insider Betting After Ballon d’Or Ceremony

French police are investigating suspected insider trading after last week’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, The Athletic reports. Several accounts are said to have correctly predicted the top five men’s finishers in order, earning nearly two million kronor.

The bets came from 12 different accounts on the prediction market Polymarket. The accounts are said to have correctly predicted the order: first Harry Kane, second Kylian Mbappé, third Lamine Yamal, fourth Rodri and fifth Leo Messi.

According to an anonymous source cited by The Athletic, the betting pattern - as well as the correct result - showed signs of a possible insider job.

The Athletic also has information, which it shares with French outlet Upside, claiming that the accounts in question placed bets worth almost 2.8 million kronor, generating a profit of almost 2.2 million kronor.
