It is the French audit office that has calculated what the Olympic Games and Paralympics have cost the country. According to the report, around 31 billion should have gone to the organization around the Olympic Games and 35.7 billion should have gone to infrastructure.
The organizers, on the other hand, mean that one cannot count the expenses made before the games or that would have had to be carried out anyway – such as infrastructure projects.
Through their method of choice, the audit office has refrained from investigating the only question that would provide meaningful information: how much money would have been saved if the games had not been held?", said Tony Estanguet, former chairman of the organizing committee, according to AP.
Another point that the investigation lacks is what the Olympic Games have generated in terms of tax revenue. Something that the audit office objects to that the tax authorities have not done or plan to do. Especially since France is also hosting the 2030 Winter Olympic Games.
