France's fleet has seized almost ten tons of cocaine in a raid off West Africa, according to authorities.

The narcotics are estimated to have a street value of around 519 million euro, equivalent to over 5.7 billion Swedish kronor.

The raid on the fishing boat in the Atlantic took place after tips from, among others, British police. The boat in question was not registered in any country, according to France.

The French navy has been patrolling the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa since 1990, an area where pirates have long been attacking ships.

Until the end of August, the navy had already this year seized over 45 tons of narcotics, which already then meant a record.
