France's Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot is visiting Greenland's capital Nuuk. He directs sharp criticism at the USA's attempts to gain control over the island.
Greenland is not for sale. You will not make your country powerful again by forcing yourself on your neighbors and allies, but by contributing to their freedom and prosperity, he says.
The statement follows a similar one from President Emmanuel Macron in June.
US President Donald Trump has several times expressed interest in taking over Greenland and has not ruled out that it can happen with military means.
At a press conference after the meeting with Greenland's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Barrot added that his two-day visit aims to show France's support for both Denmark's and Greenland's sovereignty.
Barrot also visited a French warship in Nuuk on Sunday.
My message is clear: Greenland and Denmark do not stand alone. Europe and France stand by your side.
